We are so incredibly excited to share the news that we are a recipient of the Penguin Children's Bookshop Grant.
A couple of months ago we pitched our idea to Penguin to be a part of the Penguin’s Children’s Bookshop Grant, a new initiative to support independent bookshops to inspire young people to enjoy reading as a part of 'The National Year of Reading'.
We are ecstatic to be one of the 44 bookshops to have been awarded funding!!
Our project has been inspired by the 'What To Look For' series of books published by Ladybird and will combine outdoor nature walks with reading, introducing children aged 3–6 and their families to wildlife through books. We will run free guided outdoor events with nature-themed books and complementary activity sheets to help children explore the natural world around them with each child receiving a book set, allowing them to continue learning at home. Designed to be accessible and inclusive, our events will take place for free, in easy-to-reach locations across the city. By linking reading with real-world experiences, the project aims to make books engaging and relevant, to help foster early reading and encourage families to explore both nature and literature together.
We looking forward to getting started and launching our series of kids events this summer.
More to come on this project soon!
